Mr. Michael J. Farrell “Mike” joined University Hospitals Case Medical Center (UHCMC) on October 15, 2007. Mr. Farrell’s responsibilities as President of UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and MacDonald Women’s Hospital include revenue growth, development and operational management of both Rainbow and MacDonald. He will oversee new Rainbow and MacDonald construction projects as outlined in Vision 2010 and direct regional expansion. In addition, Mr. Farrell will play a critical leadership role in driving quality outcomes, employee engagement, financial growth and enhancing the patient experience.
Prior to coming to UHCMC, Mr. Farrell served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. His accomplishments at Children’s included developing new satellite sub-specialty clinics and emergency services, creating new venture partnerships and overseeing new hospital construction. He reengineered the surgical services to improve utilization and exceed financial targets.
In August 2007, The Children’s Hospital in Denver was ranked fourth in U.S.News & World Report’s first stand-alone “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” issue which features a detailed ranking of the finest pediatric facilities in the United States. UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital was ranked fifth.
Prior to The Children’s Hospital, Mr. Farrell served as Senior Vice President, Administrative Services at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and as Senior Vice President, Administrative Services at Scottish Rite Children’s Medical Center in Atlanta. He also has experience in the pharmaceutical industry, holding executive positions at both Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals.
Mr. Farrell received his Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University. He and his wife Sue have three children, one a recent college graduate and two in college. Mike and Sue reside in Chagrin Falls, OH.
